It is the first time in 30 years, when R.E.Alexeev’s Hydrofoil Design Bureau plans to launch new vessel “Kometa 120M”, writes “Popular mechanic” with the reference to Director for marketing and foreign trade of the company, Sergey Korolev.

The vessel was laid down om August 23, 2013 at the shipbuilding plant “Vympel” in Rybinsk.

In the building of “Kometa 120M” there was used the new hydrofoil building technologies. So, the vessel’s hull consists of aluminum alloys, while there will be installed the aircraft doors at the vessel, that will reduce the air resistance.

The first attempts to design hydrofoil were made in USSR in 1948, where R.E.Alexeev’s Hydrofoil CDB offered the plant “Red Sormovo| the project of high-speed service hydrofoil boat with the speed of more than 80 km/hour, however, the civil use of hydrofoil boat was banned due to the secrecy.

However, despite the difficulties, on July 26, 1967 the hydrofoil “Racketa” started its first trip to Moscow. In general, there was created more than 1300 hydrofoils in Russia in 1990.

One of the latest hydrofoil was the vessel “Olimpia”, built in 1993 in the Crimea, it was able to accommodate 250 passengers. For today, “Kometa 120M” is the first Russian hydrofoil over the last three decades.
